Aren't you afraid?

    Aren’t you afraid?

    Of conformity?

    Without even meaning to

    be like everyone else.

    But then, you see it–

    your ideas, interests, passions,

    mannerisms, quirks–

you see it in someone else.

And suddenly the fear is overwhelming.

    The feeling

of becoming a mirror, just reflecting an image,

    of your image slipping away.

    Because who are you, alone?

    Take away the variables,

    strip down to the essential–

    What is your core?

What is the source of your fire?

And what if it’s the same as everyone else’s?

    Aren’t you afraid?
